Like most adult men I need to shave, be it for work, or just keeping clean. The problem with shaving is technology has tricked you and me. I remember as a child in the 1980’s watching my father shave, and what I remember was he had an Old Spice Mug and a Brush to create a lush lather from soap to shave with. Fast forward some 26 years into the future and we now have cans of shaving foam accompanied by multi-bladed vibrating gel tipped disposable razors. Is this the best technology has to offer in 2011?
I for one was sick to death of shaving and in November of 2010 I had a breaking point. After years of shaving using new-age Gillette products for sensitive skin, I found that I was left with just that…sensitive skin, ingrown hairs, bumps, and of course razor burn. Maybe I should blame Bill Cosby along with all other Fathers for not teaching the proper techniques of shaving. All Bill explained to his son was “use long smooth strokes” the scene then cuts to Theo having a great shave walking down the stairs in a suit. Somehow I doubt he didn’t get one nick from a safety razor on his first go using long smooth strokes. Anywho thanks to technology I was able to learn what real shaving was all about. So here is the wisdom I have learned in the past 9 months which I pass onto you.
1. Learn the “proper” Techniques to shave
2. Buy yourself a cheap starter kit
3. Once you have learned the “proper” techniques and feel comfortable using your multi-bladed razor, move into a Double Edge Safety Razor and a sample pack of razor blades for better quality shaves
4. Still, feel like your up for a challenge? Then jump into a using a Straight Edge Razor. Save money and shave like a Super Man!
Once you embrace Man Shaving you will soon find yourself wanting to try new products.
