So I am using the 1st gen Nexus 7 from 2012. I have tried every ROM under the sun and nothing seems to keep it running at a solid level. CM10, CM10.2, CM11, Stock 4.3, 4.4, 5.0. I have tried everything but it just doesn’t feel peppy anymore and overall it’s just as slow as a donkey with three legs. Now I get it, it’s a two-year-old device with a low end 4 core Tegra 1.2Ghz processor and it’s very sad 1GB of ram. It’s Christmas time and I was dead set on buying a Nexus 9 or older Nexus 10, but my inner techie said: “No, it’s only 2 years old, there has to be something I can do!” After researching a bunch of ROM’s I decided to root my Nexus again and remove Lollipop from it which has sadly proven to be even slower or as slow as Kit Kat was. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great OS, however multitasking with different apps has proven an overall suckage no matter how sexy Lollipop is.
So what did I find to make me change my mind about moving to another tablet? Slim Rom but of course! I was skeptical about using version 4.4 but I really enjoy Kit Kat so I figured it can’t hurt to try. Also, I installed the Slim Mini Gapps just to keep the system running as minimal as possible. This being my first time ever using Slim Rom I must say I am highly impressed by the speed and also customization it offers. It has the ability to delete apps you don’t need or want, change colors and bunch more. So your now asking yourself, “what is the best thing about Slim Rom?” Well simple, it’s made using my tablet fun again! My Nexus 7 is extremely fast with no lag at all and what’s best is it’s running Kit Kat! So if you’re in the same boat as I was and tired of your very slow 2012 Nexus 7 my suggestion is to give Slim Rom a try! At best your going to fall in love with your device again and decided to actually keep it like am, and call it a win! So do yourself a favor and give Slim Rom a try before you head out to the market to spend your hard-earned clams.
